A SLIVER OF A MOMENT

RESERVE YOUR SEATS HERE!

A Sliver of a Moment is a showcase of the work that The Queeriosity Collective (Noah Boonov, Parker Koepnick, Madyson Richard, and Ethan Stark) has developed over 2 months. Through various workshops with queer artists in the Winnipeg community the collective has begun developing daily artistic practices, expanding their artistic toolbox, creating collaboratively, & developing work from scratch. During this residency, Program Facilitator / Director Tanner Manson guided the collective through various exercises exploring stage composition, devising new material, and playing with physical theatre / dance. A Sliver of a Moment is the culmination of the month of learning, workshopping and creating that the One Trunk Theatre Artists-In-Residence 2022 have done together.

Each performance will also feature short performances from other local 2SLGBTQIA+ artists!

This public presentation will last no longer than 90 minutes with no intermission.

A Broken Solo

By Madyson Richard

“My piece is called A Broken Solo. It is about a child who wants to be normal and fit in with the rest of the world but encounters a strange Being who attempts to prevent this from happening. The Child tries to get rid of the Being but the Being wants to play with them and get them to stop taking everything so seriously. The Child succeeds in getting rid of the Being and is left alone where they realize that the Being was a part of them the whole time. This piece is about learning to recognize and accept parts of yourself that you may not initially like. It is also about learning to be yourself and accepting that you don’t have to conform to what the world expects of you.”

To Forget Once More

By Parker Koepnick

“To Forget Once More is an abstract play about people living monotonous lives who begin to realize they are in a play/story. The characters wrestle with their given roles and identities and fight to challenge the author of their story. The play experiments with the roles we are given in society, as well as questioning why we dress or behave certain ways and what happens when we allow ourselves the freedom to explore who we are.”

The Brave Buccaneers

By Noah Boonov

“Jones is a pirate-in-training, but they’re feeling conflicted. Jones always thought they would join Captain Pinque’s crew. When Captain Buhloo’s crew seems like a better fit for Jones, they’re told that someone like them isn’t allowed to join the Buhloo crew. Feeling lost, Jones takes a journey through the Coral Sea to Cato Island. Cato is known for its loving and accepting culture, perfect for pirates just like Jones. The island is governed by the kind, wise, and accepting Rainbow Ruler. Through their journey they meet three fellow pirate-trainees. Each of them has a unique skillset, perfect for fixing any problem that might arise at sea. But, what happens when they reach Cato? Will Jones find the right crew for them? This nautical musical is about queerness, chosen family, and pirate fun!”

Sinking Ship

By Ethan Stark

“Sinking Ship takes the old adage: ‘Don’t rock the boat’ and attempts to literalize it. Two characters, trapped in a boat, in the middle of the ocean, in a world where all they have are the things they have caught while fishing. This is reflected in the set design, costume designs, and props. From a small puppet show using objects the two characters have found, to the boat almost capsizing, we explore how one small space can be used in many ways.  Funny, magical, bizarre, this piece is an exploration of two people trying to entertain themselves to stay sane and avoid fights, while something more sinister brews below the surface of the ocean and of their relationship. Their avoidance of talking through difficult things and disagreeing keeps the boat from capsizing, but at what cost?”

  • Nadia Biz(nitch)

Nadia Biz(nitch) (she/they) is a Winnipeg-based drag performer who began developing their skills at home over the past few years. Out of drag, she is a recent graduate from the University of Winnipeg’s Theatre and Film program where she specialized in Devised Theatre. Both in and out of drag she strives to make whimsical, exaggerated content that is accessible to and can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

  • Kara Joseph

’m Kara Joseph! I’m a performer/creator based in Winnipeg. I’ve been a big fan of music and theatre for as long I can remember. One thing lead to another and I found myself studying voice at the Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba. Since then, I’ve been enjoying my time navigating my way through the theatre scene. While most of my experience is on stage, I’ve recently started writing and collaborating on projects (mostly with my old bean bag of a brother, Cuinn). I’ve also discovered a passion for arts administration and all the work that goes on behind the scenes of a theatre company. I’m excited to work with the One Trunk team and have the opportunity to collaborate with some amazing artists!
