Call for 2024 Artists-In-Residence!

Residents this year will be involved in Saplings

One Trunk Theatre (OTT) is hiring 2 Artists-In-Residence to participate in our Summer Residency Program! The intensive 8 week residency will run from May 13 - July 6th 2024 and includes training, mentorship, and performance. Artists-in-Residence will be cast as the lead actors in our TYA touring production of Saplings, an interactive musical for very young audiences!

This year, our call is open to artists who are interested in working with/performing for young children (ages 3-10). While we encourage applications from artists of all disciplines, we are looking to fill two specific roles in relation to the Saplings tour as performers. These performer roles will include LOTS of interaction with audiences and will require a sense of play, improvisation, and comfort onstage. Additionally, we are specifically seeking applicants who are able to play a string instrument confidently.

This is a residency that constitutes a paid opportunity for artists that are 30 years old or younger (as determined by our funder- Canada Summer Jobs), to cultivate new skills to aid in developing their own artistic practice. One Trunk Co-Artistic Producers and Board Members will lead the program,  provide mentorship, and facilitate workshops with other mentors that are tailored specifically for our artists in residence to further this goal of building upon new and established skills.

We encourage, and will prioritize, applications from artists who identify as Queer / 2SLGBTQIA+, Global Majority folx (IBPOC), as well any other Equity Deserving group. We are committed to creating spaces where all artists and audiences feel safe and represented within our community. Artists of all backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply and will be considered with the utmost sincerity.
