Hamlet as Told on the Streets

A bloodbath to a beat- One Trunk’s hip hop Hamlet.

In Playboy Magazine 1970 Shel Silverstein published his poem Hamlet as Told on the Streets based on Shakespeare’s classic tragedy.

Decades later One Trunk commissioned Peter Reinhardt, of Burnaby, BC to put Silverstein’s words to rhythm. Hamlet as Told on the Streets is a 30 minute punch in the face of comedy, hip hop dance, street fighting and rap. Accompanied by video shot in the hood of Winnipeg, 5 actors bring the story to life. The show premiered at a new works festival at the Winnipeg Jewish Theatre, and was later remounted for a Fringe tour - winning best comedy at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival.
